A family-friendly holiday farm with lots of animals
The Rainer family warmly welcomes you to the Rafreiderhof mountain farm, which boasts a dreamlike panoramic location right at the entrance to Val Gardena.
Here's what you need to know about the Rafreiderhof:
The Rafreiderhof is located in the Upper Eisack Valley, near Laion in San Pietro, on a sunny slope at an altitude of 1,016 metres.
The farm consists of a new residential house, a farm building and an old house dating back to the 11th century which is a listed historic building.
The farm includes 3.8 hectares of cultivated land and around 16 hectares of forest.
There are currently six cows, fifteen chickens, a rooster, a cat and two rabbits on the farm.
Farm management
To manage our farm, we use a milking machine, a manure removal system and a milk cooling unit in the barn. For working the fields, we use a mower, a tractor and a Metrac with the necessary equipment.
Our traditional farm is based on dairy farming and farm holidays. The cows are milked twice a day and the milk is collected daily from our collection point and taken to the Brimi dairy in Bressanone. We farm our land extensively and prioritise the health and well-being of our animals. We do not use genetically modified feed for our cows or chickens. Our calves are raised exclusively on their mothers' milk. We only use our own farm-produced fertilisers on our fields.
In our garden and small potato field, we carefully follow crop rotation. We also place great importance on the diversity of our products.
Our herb garden contains:
chamomile, peppermint, lemon balm, basil, parsley, chives, sage, thyme, marigold, mallow, celery and marjoram.
Stable rules
You and your children are welcome to watch us working in the barn, or even lend a hand yourselves if you wish. Our animals react to unfamiliar people, so please only visit the barn with us. Our cows are milked at 6 pm in summer and 5 pm in winter, so these are the times when we are in the barn.
You can join us on a farm tour once a week to experience rural life, the daily routine and the yearly cycle on the farm.
